Paul Hopman is an artist and illustrator in Tucson, AZ. For the last 42 years, he has perfected the art of scratchboard, a technique where an artist starts with a board covered with ink to use a subtractive method to develop a picture and apply color to achieve life like results. His unique style captures the spirit and beauty of his animal subject.
Paul’s passion is promoting education, conservation and preservation of the world’s animal kingdom. “People have an appreciation, fondness and a relationship with their pets and animals. My goal is to represent that affection in my portraits so that it is timeless. It is amazing to see how as a society we identify with our animals. It is a privilege to be part of it.”
I first became aware of Paul’s incredible scratchboard art through my association with the Mountain Oyster Club Art Show. Paul has been winning many awards these past several years and they are well deserved! I have a very nice selection of prints by Paul. If you are interested in an original, give me a call or email me.
